Azelaic acid is one possible topical treatment option for mild to moderate acne, where a clinician considers it appropriate following assessment.

Formulations used by the clinic

  • Skinoren 20% cream
  • Finacea 15% gel

Standard PGD directions

Applied to affected areas twice daily, morning and evening.

For sensitive skin the clinician may advise once-daily evening use during the first week before progressing to twice daily.

Expected time course

Improvement may begin to be seen after approximately four weeks, although treatment response differs between patients and continued use for several months may sometimes be required.
